Capall

December 30th, 2017

12-30-17 Capall made a respectable debut, he pressed the pace and came up a length short to run 4th (86 Equibase figure) to Sizzling Evening, a horse who was offered $100,000 after the race. No doubt this should be a key race as 5 of these two-year-olds ran some of the fastest times for 2-year-olds at Golden Gate this year.

Capall working up a storm at G.G.

Ran a bullet 1/66 4f in 47 2/5ths this a.m. and came out happy as could be.

Capall heads back to Golden Gate Fields to resume training.

June 22nd, 2017
Capall was working like a good horse but developed a minor shin last week so we decided to give him 4 or 5-month rest before bringing back to the races.

Did not meet our reserve price at the Barrett's two-year-old in training sale so we decided to bring this good-looking boy up to Golden Gate Fields to the Jamey Thomas barn to race. Stay tuned for updates, trying to win early and go from there.

Our RAH - Miss Nicole worked in 10 2/5ths today and looked fabulous. Long-striding colt was eating up the ground and looked to be able to go all day. He just says RACE HORSE all over him. Can't wait to see what he brings to one lucky buyer.

Our Run Away and Hide - Miss Nicole colt will go as HIP #52 in the Barrett's 2017 May Two-Year-old in Training sale at Del Mar May 17th. The under tack show is scheduled for Monday, May 15th.

Breezed a quarter.
The Northern Afleet colt is "a star" according to everyone on the staff. It's unanimous. One rider did say he has some peculiar responses to urging and the whip and will pass that along to the OBS team. Outworked the Run Away and Hide colt by a length and was well within himself.

This is not to disparage the Run Away and Hide colt. I quite liked what I saw yesterday. He was just up against a potentially special horse. Still, like his motion and length of stride and feel like he'll go 10.1 or 10.2 at the sale. I will say he has plateaued a bit in terms of physical development. When they all went into training, he changed a lot very quickly. Not seeing as much change recently.
Both colts are very professional and aggressive and both have been sound to date.

Doing well. Sound and happy.

Staff rates him favorably. Covers a lot of ground and tries hard. Should be able to post a 10.1 or 10.2.

Training perfectly. Has a markedly long stride, particularly when you factor in he isn't the biggest horse in the barn.

Not surprisingly, being described as one of the smartest colts in the barn. He was always ultra easy to work with here at my place.

Doing really well under saddle. Will start going to the track later this week.

Growth in height continues to outpace growth in width. Growing like a weed and his body isn't keeping up in terms of muscle/body mass.

Once the body catches up, we could have a nice individual... but he's definitely awkward at this stage.

4/27/2016
Has gone through a growth spurt this month that I've never seen before. Very pleased with the growth, but I can't say he's one of the more attractive yearlings on the farm. The growth spurt has rendered him fairly awkward at this stage. Body substance needs to catch up with frame growth.

Has finally learned to stay out of trouble... knock on wood.

Hematoma has healed up nicely as expected.

3/22/2016
This horse just seems to find trouble. Was kicked by a pasture buddy in the hindquarters resulting in a hematoma that needed to be lanced.

It's in an ideal spot for proper drainage. Shouldn't be a big deal.

Will monitor it closely.

Doing well, but got into a minor accident over the weekend.

We have a cement ditch that runs along the side of this pasture (our largest pasture). He decided to explore and scuffed his front legs up just a touch. Very superficial. No medical attention required
